Target Mollifies Identity Theft Victims with 10% Discount — Everything All Better Now

by Jeremy Holcombe

Superstore Target is doing its best to make up for the huge security breach it suffered over the Black Friday shopping weekend by offering customers 10% off everything in store this weekend. The deal is good in all US target stores on any SINGLE purchase.

Over 40 million Target customers had their credit and debit card information stolen over the Black Friday weekend, though PINs were supposedly not compromised. Customers who shopped at Target that weekend were all in danger, and the smart ones have been monitoring their credit and debit cards very closely.

According to Yahoo! Finance News, company CEO Gregg Steinhafel appeared in a videos posted on the company website explaining the security breach, apologizing for delays at company call centers, and extending the offer.

“We’re in this together, and in that spirit, we are extending a 10% discount — the same amount our team members receive — to guests who shop in US stores on December 21 and 22,” he said.

The website added: “Valid in-store only. Limit one offer per guest to be used in a single transaction. Void if prohibited by law. Not valid in Canada. No cash value.”

As you can see, there are certain stipulations to the offer. Ten percent may not seem like a huge discount, but if you shop for the right things it can lead to a nice little chunk of change taken off your final bill. This may be ideal for those needing to do some last minute Christmas shopping, and are looking to get a good discount.

Despite the extended discount offer by Target, many customers are still very angry, and rightfully so. A 10% discount hardly seems worth it if a hacker can use your credit card to run up stolen purchases.

“This all seems VERY unorganized and extremely disrespectful to your customers. Offering 10% is laughable,” a woman named Stacey Jane Deme remarked online.

Either way, this is what Target is offering as of now, so get out there and take advantage of it if you can.
