President Donald Trump delivered an economy-focused speech in northeast Pennsylvania on Tuesday. He told a packed crowd that his administration is lowering prices nationwide while Democrats are responsible for years of rising costs.
“Just over one year ago today, with your help, we saved America,” Trump said as he opened his remarks. “By the way, last election, did we kick ass? That means we won three times in a row.” He said Pennsylvania is prospering again and declared, “I will not rest until this commonwealth is wealthier and stronger than ever before.”
Trump pointed to job gains in the state. “Since my inauguration, we’ve created nearly 60,000 new Pennsylvania jobs,” he said. “That includes 4,000 Pennsylvania manufacturing jobs that the Democrats gave up on.”
Affordability was the central theme. “I have no higher priority than making America affordable again,” Trump told the crowd. “We’re bringing prices down rapidly.” He listed categories where prices are falling. “Butter, eggs, fruit, pasta, rice. They’re all coming down.”
Supporters responded with chants of “USA” and “four more years.” The ballroom was filled with signs behind the podium reading “Lower Prices” and “Bigger Paychecks.”
Trump highlighted inflation figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. “Inflation is averaging 2.7 percent,” he said. He also pointed to wage growth. “After inflation, wages have increased about 4 percent this year,” he said. “That’s an extra $700 in spending power for Americans. And it’s going to go to $1,200.”
On fuel prices, Trump said the country is seeing major improvement. “Gas is around $2.95 a gallon nationwide. It’s the lowest in nearly 1,700 days,” he said. “You’ve got states where it’s under $2.”
Trump repeated his criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. “We have a lousy Fed chair,” he said. He argued that the Fed should be cutting rates more aggressively. He said inflation is under control despite tariffs. “We need lower rates,” Trump said. “Families need relief.”
The president also promoted the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. “We cut taxes on overtime, tips, and Social Security benefits,” he said. “Workers are going to see bigger refunds. About $1,000 more.”
He emphasized deregulation as another source of savings. “We removed Biden’s climate restrictions,” Trump said. “That’s saving Americans $180 billion. A family of four is saving about $2,100.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent echoed Trump’s message when he addressed the crowd. “Inflation will roll down,” he said. He also took a swipe at Biden. “Biden ran up America’s credit card and left us here to pay the bill.”
Bessent said the results of Trump’s policies are already visible. “[Trump’s] policies are already yielding fruit,” he told the audience.
Pennsylvania lawmakers also spoke before Trump. Rep. Rob Bresnahan said voters are focused on daily costs. “The message is the same everywhere we go — lower the costs,” he said. “They aren’t asking for partisan arguments. They’re asking for results.”
Energy Secretary Chris Wright pointed to rising electricity prices in Democrat-led states. “The states with the highest electricity prices — California, Hawaii, New York — are all run by Democrats,” he said.
Trump supporters filled the room and overflow areas. Many wore red hats, and one attendee behind Trump wore a “Persians for Trump” shirt. Signs reading “Trump gives us hope” and “Win the House, Save the Country” were waved throughout the event.
One supporter from Philadelphia summed up the mood. “We’re here because he’s the greatest president in our lifetime,” John Roberts said. “He’s fighting for us, for our kids, and for our grandkids.”
Trump is expected to continue the tour in the weeks ahead. He plans to highlight affordability, energy policy, and tax relief as he campaigns for Republican candidates heading into the midterm cycle.
