Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL) won Alabama’s Republican Senate primary runoff on June 16. He defeated former Navy SEAL veteran Jared Hudson and secured the GOP nomination in a race closely watched by supporters of President Donald Trump. Moore benefited from a strong endorsement from Trump.
Moore will advance to the general election in November. He will compete for the seat being vacated by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), who is running for governor. Alabama is considered a heavily Republican state. That makes Moore the favorite heading into the general election.
The runoff was required after no candidate received a majority of the vote in the May 19 primary. Moore led the initial primary field with 39.2 percent of the vote. Hudson finished second with 25.6 percent.
Trump publicly praised Moore on Truth Social in the final days of the race. He called him an “America First Patriot” and noted that Moore was the first elected official in the country to endorse him during his initial presidential campaign.
“As your next Senator, Barry will continue to fight tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Strengthen our Brave Military/Veterans, Safeguard our Elections, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote on June 15.
Moore’s campaign focused on border security, economic growth, support for veterans, protecting the Second Amendment, backing women’s sports, and advancing Trump’s policy agenda. He has represented Alabama in Congress since 2021. He previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018.
During the campaign, Moore argued that inflation and federal spending were among the biggest challenges facing Alabama families. He said reducing the national debt should be a priority. He also pointed to his relationship with Trump as an advantage for bringing economic development projects to the state.
Hudson, meanwhile, campaigned on election security, immigration enforcement, congressional term limits, and a ban on stock trading by members of Congress. He also criticized career politicians. He questioned Moore’s decision to seek higher office while Republicans hold a narrow majority in the House.
The result adds to a growing list of Republican primary victories by Trump-endorsed candidates during the 2026 election cycle. Moore’s win further demonstrated Trump’s influence within the Republican Party. Voters continue to rally behind candidates aligned with his agenda.
