Trump Gives Putin 10-Day Ultimatum to End War in Ukraine: “Too Many People Are Dying”

President Donald Trump has shortened the deadline he gave Russian President Vladimir Putin to strike a peace deal in Ukraine. Trump now wants to see progress within 10 to 12 days. He warned of potential tariffs and sanctions if Russia continues its attacks.

Trump initially gave Putin 50 days to reach a resolution. But he changed course after another wave of Russian missiles and drone strikes battered Ukrainian cities. The new deadline means Trump expects movement toward peace by August 7 to 9.

“No reason in waiting,” Trump said Monday during a visit to Scotland. “We just don’t see any progress being made.” He added, “Putin has got to make a deal. Too many people are dying.”

Russia launched over 300 drones overnight. It also fired four cruise missiles and three ballistic missiles, according to the Ukrainian air force. The main target was believed to be a Ukrainian air base in Starokostiantyniv. That region lies far from the front lines but is known to house arsenals and airfields.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed it struck weapons depots. It also said its forces hit components for Ukrainian drone production.

In Kyiv, a Russian drone shattered the windows of a 25-story residential building. Eight people were injured, including a 4-year-old girl. Fires were also reported in Kropyvnytskyi in central Ukraine. No injuries were confirmed there.

Trump criticized Putin for continuing the bombing while claiming to seek peace. “That’s not the way to do it,” he said. “I’m disappointed in President Putin.” When asked if he would meet with the Russian leader, Trump responded, “I’m not so interested in talking anymore.”

Though Trump expressed reluctance to punish the Russian people, he said the strategy will include “severe tariffs.” It may also involve secondary sanctions targeting Russia’s trade partners. “I don’t want to do that to Russia,” Trump said. “But a lot of Russians are dying too.”

Ukrainian officials welcomed the shorter timeline. Andrii Yermak, head of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office, thanked Trump for the stronger stance. “Putin understands only strength — and that has been conveyed clearly and loudly,” Yermak wrote on X.
