Subpoenas For Several Biden Family Members in Congressional Investigation

by Richard A Reagan

House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has issued subpoenas to key members of President Joe Biden’s family, including his son Hunter Biden, brother James Biden, and associate Rob Walker. Chairman Comer, emphasizing the gravity of the inquiry, stated, “The House Oversight Committee has followed the money and built a record of evidence revealing how Joe Biden knew, was involved, and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes.” This stern allegation is at the heart of the subpoenas and the broader investigation, which Republicans argue unveils a pattern of unethical business practices tied to the Biden family.

The financial records obtained by the Committee suggest the establishment of over 20 shell companies by the Biden family, most during Joe Biden’s vice presidency. These companies allegedly concealed over $24 million received from foreign nationals, including funds from China, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan. The intricate financial transactions, according to the Committee, were designed to hide the origin and total amount of money received.

Devon Archer, a Biden family associate, testified that Joe Biden was the “brand” sold globally, implying the use of the then-Vice President’s name to secure business dealings. Archer’s testimony included instances of Joe Biden being involved in various meetings and phone calls with foreign business associates.

The subpoenas come amidst allegations from IRS whistleblowers and the discovery of checks labeled as “loan repayments” from James and Sara Biden to Joe Biden, allegedly funded by laundered Chinese money and domestic influence-peddling schemes. This development has further fueled Republican assertions of misconduct.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) emphasized the need for these subpoenas, stating, “President Biden and his administration have continually changed their stories throughout this inquiry. You know who’s been consistent? The IRS whistleblowers.”

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) also weighed in, asserting, “The American people are learning the truth about how the Biden Family sold access to Joe Biden and his political influence all around the world.”

Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, described the subpoena as a “political stunt,” but confirmed that Hunter is prepared to discuss these matters with the Committee. Meanwhile, the White House has dismissed the investigation as a “smear campaign,” with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stating that the investigation “has turned up zero evidence against the president.” [Source]

The Republican-controlled House’s move to subpoena the Bidens marks a crucial moment in their broader investigation, which has been publicly supported by former President Donald Trump. The outcome of these depositions and the ongoing investigation could have significant implications for the Biden administration and the political landscape as the 2024 election approaches.
