Every day it seems like we’re starting to live in George Orwell’s 1984. While Orwell tried to use the book to warn us what would happen if we failed to keep the government in check, it seems that the government has been using it as an instruction manual. And all too many Americans are only too willing to go along with it.
The most recent page taken from the book was the announcement that the Department of Homeland Security will be creating a “Disinformation Governance Board.” While the ostensible purpose of the Board will be to try to prevent the dissemination of disinformation, it’s pretty clear from the Board’s name that it will instead be a major source of disinformation.
Heading up the Board will be Nina Jankowicz, a former scholar at the Wilson Center and supposed disinformation expert. However, her history has already elicited a great deal of criticism.
Jankowicz was a firm believer that the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian propaganda. Now that the mainstream media is finally acknowledging that the Russian propaganda claim was itself disinformation, has Jankowicz realized the error of her ways? There’s certainly no indication that she has. And of course she was a fervent supporter of the COVID lockdowns in 2020.
What the government has essentially done is create its own Ministry of Truth, with Big Sister at the helm ready to push Big Brother’s propaganda. If you’re already operating under the assumption that everything the government says is the exact opposite of the truth, then this new disinformation agency is probably no surprise to you. But if you’ve actually trusted the government, this new agency should be an indication that something sinister is afoot.
No one knows yet what this new agency will do and how broad its jurisdiction will be. But it could be just the first step the Biden administration takes at trying to shut down dissent.
It’s no coincidence that it’s coming right as Elon Musk has purchased Twitter and vowed to force the platform to return to free speech. The left knows that the free exchange of ideas will inevitably lead to discovery of the truth, and the realization that leftism is based on lies. If we do our part, this could be the last gasp of a movement that should have died a long time ago, and not the beginning of a tyrannical crackdown.
