We enjoy ourselves here at RedTea News, poking fun at North Korea’s murderous boy dictator, Kim “Little Fatty” Jong-un. But it looks like we’ll have to stop. If you thought that just because you didn’t live in the DPRK’s prison state that you were free to say what you want about Kim, well, think again!
Recently, the rumor was going around that Li’l Kim had ordered every male citizen of North Korea to emulate his unique, 1990s-era hairstyle. The owner of a British hair salon, Mo Nabbach, thought it would be funny to feature a photo of Kim in an advertisement, with the text “Bad hair day?” He offered a 15% discount to his male customers (although one would hope that if they wanted the actual Kim haircut, they wouldn’t have to pay anything at all).
But soon, according to The Independent, two intimidating men in suits arrived at Mr. Nabbach’s place of business. They informed him that they came from the Embassy of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, on nearby Gunnersbury Avenue in London. The men told the innocent hairdresser, who the last time he heard lived 5,400 miles outside of Li’l Kim’s sphere of influence, that the poster was “disrespectful” to their leader (duh!), and that it had to come down.
Initially, Nabbach acceded to the Communists’ demand — but he put the poster back up after customers reminded him that the United Kingdom is a free democracy, not a client state of the People’s Republic of China.
Nabbach became concerned that the embassy staff were covertly surveilling his business, and notified the British authorities. According to the Metropolitan Police, who provide law enforcement for the City of London, “We have spoken to all parties involved and no offence has been disclosed.”
The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it formally received a letter from the North Koreans, complaining about the poster. The letter allegedly urged the government of prime minster David Cameron to take “necessary action to stop the provocation.” We’re sure Mr. Cameron will get right on that.
The embassy told The Independent, “We are not in a position to comment.” Well, you would be if you defected.
